Treetops Social Responsibility and CASE

Community Action towards a safer environment

Treetops is proud of its association with the NGO CASE and specifically with its Men's Project. As an organisation that cares and believes in a value-based approach to our work, we find strong resonance with the real difference CASE is making within its community.

Our relationship with CASE has taken shape over the last year and includes:

  • Sponsoring aspects of the annual CASE Men's Conference in Hanover Park.
  • James Eckley, one of our consultants, also works as Project Manager for the Men's Project.
  • Assistance with mentoring, facilitation and coaching skills for senior members of the Men's Project.

Background to CASE

CASE (NPO 041 225 Section 18 PBO 930017404) has been functioning as a community-based organisation that has been working in Hanover Park since 2001. To this day it is run by volunteers drawn from the community and from specialist organisations.

In Hanover Park violence has taken root in a social context, which is marked by unemployment and poverty. In Hanover Park

  • 61% of adults do not have an income.
  • Only 11,4% of adults have a monthly income of more than R1600.
  • Less than 20% of adults have completed high school.

This provides fertile ground for a flourishing gang culture, which recruits young people into the drug trade as users and merchants.

The missions of CASE is to seek to break the cycle of crime and violence in which people live by equipping the community members to recognise and respond appropriately to both the causes and effects of crime and violence in their communities.
